Austin, TX – 20 May 2008 -- Oak Micros announces the om644p microcontroller based on the Atmel ATmega128. A key design feature of the om644p is its compact 40-pin DIL style packaging that allows the device to be used on breadboards and in other thru-hole applications. The om644p includes a built-in bootstrap loader for easy downloading of programs using a serial port. One advantage of the om644p over similar devices is that the download can be initiated from the host PC without requiring user intervention. The om644p is suitable for the hobbyist and professional alike and provides a powerful, easy to use platform for scientific and industrial control applications.

The om644p is based on same hardware platform as the successful Oak Micros ZX-24pe and ZX-24ne devices and features 32 I/O pins, true voltage level RS232 transceiver, slide switch to choose between RS232 and logic voltage levels for USART0, LED monitoring on two I/O pins, a 5 Volt regulator, and power monitor LED. An on-board PDIP socket is available for SPI-based EEPROM, Flash or FRAM memory that can be used for data logging or additional data storage.

The om644p is supported by a software package that includes example programs, command line and GUI downloader tools for Windows, and the bootstrap loader source code.
